Founded by Godric Gryffindor — a wizard who valued courage above all else and apparently had no reservations about encouraging children to act on it — Gryffindor is the house of the bold, the headstrong, and those who run towards the danger rather than away from it. It is also, historically, the house most likely to be involved in whatever is currently threatening the entire wizarding world. Coincidence? Possibly. Probably not.
Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, Ron Weasley, Albus Dumbledore, Minerva McGonagall, the entire Weasley family — Gryffindor's alumni list reads like a who's who of people who did the right thing when it was extremely difficult and at considerable personal cost. The scarlet and gold has come to stand for something: the belief that it is our choices, not our abilities, that show who we truly are.
